Static IP Address

One of the reasons SimRush stands out from other 4G and 5G devices is the optional SimRush static IP address service.

What is a SimRush static IP address?

A SimRush 5G or 4G static IP address enables you to remotely access equipment on your network from outside of your premises.

Unlike other solutions that simply provide static IP SIM cards, SimRush uses its own 4G or 5G connection to provide an IP. It can also use any combination of the auxiliary connections you are using at your location such as broadband, satellite or a leased line.

A SimRush public IP Address comes from our datacentre based in the UK.

This address is presented directly to the SimRush Controller, your indoor primary broadband router & firewall. Because the IP address is presented here, it is independent of the external links to the internet that the SimRush Controller will have used to reach the public internet.

What can a SimRush static IP address be used for?

Connecting to your network to view…

  • CCTV equipment
  • An email server

  • A virtual private network (VPN service)
  • SD-WAN services

It can also be used to allow for port forwarding, connection monitoring or a VoIP digital phone service.

Static IP Address

Do I need a 5G or 4G fixed IP Address?

A static IP address is strongly recommended for businesses.

They are necessary if your business needs to remotely access equipment on your network or from outside of your premises. This could be for viewing CCTV equipment & footage or servers.

You’ll also need a 4G static IP address if you want to build or host a website or if you want your digital presence to always be tied to a particular location. For example, if you want your business to appear in the right location on Google maps.

What’s the difference between a Static and Dynamic IP address?

With most wired internet connections you are provided with a public IP address, but this isn’t always static. Most of the time you will be provided with a dynamic IP.

This is changed on a regular basis by your provider unless you pay to have it fixed and static. This means that every time you think you know the address for your remote access, it’s been changed and you have to find out what your IP address is all over again.

Dynamic DNS services help with this problem on fixed wire services, but they don’t work on 4G access networks. With 4G networks, there is another layer of complexity as the network operator masquerades your 4G connection through various gateways before your access reaches the internet.

This path is not reversible so the information regarding your 4G static IP address on your equipment is not the same as the rest of the world recognises once it reaches the internet. The mobile network operators also employ firewall services of their own to prevent external access originating from outside of their network reaching your equipment. This means your given IP address is impossible to reach.

Why is a SimRush IP address different?

SimRush is different and the solution is really clever.

As the address is presented directly to the SimRush Controller, it is independent of the external links to the internet that the Controller uses to reach the public internet.

This can be one of many SimRush outdoor units (ODUs) that may have been added to the system to increase available bandwidth, or it may be from an auxiliary data source like a broadband, satellite or leased line connection available at your premises.

Unlike with IP SIM packages, your 4G or 5G static IP address will be carrier independent and will remain constant regardless of the connection you are on.

No more guesswork when it comes remotely accessing your network.
