Can I use my organization’s own public IP addresses (from AFRINIC/RIR) with the SimRush router?
Yes, there are several technical options available, though each has different requirements and considerations depending on your needs and scale.
What are my options for using my own IP block?
Option 1: Master Distributor Programme
If you plan to operate at scale as a Master Distributor in your region, we can provide a gateway server hosted on your ISP platform. This allows you to:
- Direct your own public IP addresses to resellers and clients
- Use your own gateway and internet transit
- Manage your own data transit for end users
Requirements: Commitment to sell a minimum number of site licenses, and responsibility for end user traffic transit.
Option 2: IP Routing Configuration
We can route your public IP address subnet to the SimRush-provided public IP address, then configure your subnet as the LAN IP subnet on the SimRush with NAT disabled. All outbound traffic would then use your public IP addresses.
Considerations:
- This is a bespoke configuration requiring chargeable engineering time
- Needs testing before deployment
- May result in lower network efficiency and higher latency due to cross-continental routing
Option 3: BGP Announcement
Your AFRINIC IP address block can be assigned to our Autonomous System (AS), and we’ll announce it from our UK network.
Considerations:
- Potential efficiency costs if your users are geographically distant from the UK
- Best suited for organizations with distributed user bases
Are there performance implications?
Yes. Since routing would occur between two continents (if you’re Africa-based), you should expect some network efficiency reduction and increased latency, particularly with Options 2 and 3.
What’s the next step?
Contact our technical team to discuss which option best suits your organizational needs and geographical setup. Engineering consultations and custom configurations are chargeable and quoted on a project basis.
